Whether you book directly from their website or book through a good travel site, namely one of the websites specifically dedicated to Vegas deals, this place is going to be your cheapest option most days. There will be special dates, such as New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, or dates surrounding specific events, which will be more expensive, but generally speaking, this is by far one of the four cheapest options on the Strip.
Starting from around 25 dollars a night for their cheapest room type, and with a low resort fee including free access to a good quality, large gym, if you don't mind the low quality of the bed (in the cheapest rooms), the excessive noise everywhere, the overall less than clean environment, the fact that it's one of the largest, most crowded resorts where smoke seems to reach everywhere, this may be the place for you if your budget is your main concern. Sometimes you'll be lucky and you'll be given a free upgrade where the bed will be better and the room slightly remodelled with a flat screen TV (but very few channels to watch anyway). We often get the upgrade, so our budget stay at the Excalibur becomes well worth it, especially because we love its gym and, if you are a pool lover, they actually have very large pool area.
However, if you want to eat at the resort where you stay, this particular resort only offers low-quality food options, from its buffet to its food court. If you prefer a great buffet you are certainly advised to go as far as Bellagio (delicious!) or even Planet Hollywood (which is certainly good enough), or the nearby Aria. In terms of location, you will be on the South side of the Strip near New York New York, MGM, Tropicana and Luxor. A good area in many ways with the exception, perhaps, of top restaurant choices or top buffet choices.
